I swore I'd never live in Wisconsin

I always said I'd never stay in Wisconsin, but here I am four years later loving almost every minute of it.

Trivia, drinking, music and everything in between.

  • Let me say this. You do excellent work and I consider you one of the best writers we had/have. You’re welcome to write for [removed] anytime that it works for you.

One of the publisher’s I’ve been freelancing for on my new job.

  • Fun with Transcribing

    Kim:
what is a word/measurement when talking about ultra capacitors/cells that would be abbreviated as F?
    Kim:
i cant understand for the life of me what word this guy is saying...and on the cell spec sheet...it just says 3000F
    Leah:
    Farad
    Kim:
    ah ok
    Kim:
that is what it sounds like he was saying....but it also sounded like ferret
    Leah:
    haha, I like ferret better!
    Kim:
the latest in hybrid technology! You've heard of hamsters running on a wheel...now to up the energy, we offer ferret wheels! [Company Name's] latest is a 3000 ferret cell.
    Kim:

    Leah:

    Kim:

  • Self Confidence Boost!

I just got off the phone with one of my publishers and he was telling me how my assignment for this issue is really a big deal for the industry and how it’s going to be big news…and there’s a reason why I was assigned it. He then went on to tell me how he was so impressed by a previous story I wrote that he gave very little guidance or information on - I found the right people to talk to and really made the story come alive.

What a great way to end a Friday and long week! The pressure is on with this story, but it’s so great to hear how confident he is in me.

Oh, and did I mention this is the guy who basically gave me my first job? We’ve both since left that company and once again are working with each other. He really is a great person.

  • The problem with freelancing…

is when someone calls you sometimes it takes five minutes into the phone call to have any idea which publication they are calling about or even to remember who the heck they are! I think I played this one off nicely though. Phew

  • So I entered your story. Love it! But then again, who doesn’t love anything with bombs and death counts.

  • Things that frustrate me as an editor:

    • Two spaces after a period
    • Serial/Oxford comas
    • Using insure when you mean ensure
    • Using their when you should be using it
    • Misuse of then and than
    • Misuse of further and farther
    • The list goes on…
