Are Green Bay Fans the N.F.L.’s Classiest?
I don’t know that the post answers the title question, or that it’s even a fair question, but it includes a few good examples of why I love Wisconsin so much. I might prefer to live in Chicago, but I treasure my small-town Midwestern upbringing. While Chicago and Green Bay have an intense rivalry, I have to add that I’ve never* encountered any hostility while watching Packers games in public, even when those games were against the Bears. (And that everyone I know in Chicago is just as pleasant as everyone I know from a small Midwestern town.)
Both groups of fans are much better than this and this.
*There was one obnoxious situation at a bar for the Packers-Bears Conference Championship game last year. But the young lady in question (who was yelling and causing quite a scene) did not seem to care about football at all until the fourth quarter, so I chalked it up to her being rather intoxicated and maybe attempting to show off to the men in her group.
Interesting, I (Bears fan, Chicagoland born and raised) encounter hostility almost every time I watch any football game with any Packers fan that isn’t Zach, whether the Bears or Packers are playing….each other or otherwise. And for the record, I generally just sit there quietly and don’t say anything one way or the other. I may cheer when the Bears do something good, but I don’t vocally cheer against the Packers.
